Membership

Members may propose appropriate candidates for membership in accordance with the nomination procedure, below. The committee will consider nominations based on the membership criteria and, on approval, these nominees will be placed on a waiting list. New members will be invited when vacancies occur.

It is important to keep the standard of membership high to maintain the status of the Society and to ensure that host clubs continue to recognise our Society as one deserving appropriate considerations and concessions. Therefore, the committee will give preference to candidates who are held in high regard by the golfing fraternity and will enhance the Society’s image. To enable this objective to be achieved, current members should have strict regard to the quality of their nominations.

The nomination procedure and membership criteria to select suitable members is summarised below:

Nomination Procedure

The first and most important step before proposing a new member is to discuss the background and details of the nominee with the President and Captain to establish if the criteria for membership will be met.

If these details are satisfactory, the Membership Secretary will be requested to forward a nomination form. The form will require information about the candidate, to be completed by the nominator and seconder, and accompanied by a supporting letter from each of them. The Nomination must also be supported by the written recommendation of at least two other members of the Society as referees. It should then be forwarded to the Secretary.

The proposer and seconder should have been members of the Society for at least two years.

A member may only propose or second one applicant per year. A member may not propose or second a close family member, but may act as a referee.
