Match Report – Cromer Golf Club
Tuesday 2nd December 2025
Final Event of the 2025 Schedule
The final game of the 2025 season saw 40 members and guests enjoy a relaxed 10:00 am shotgun start at beautiful Cromer Golf Club on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. This annual medley invitation event provides Society members the opportunity to invite their spouse or partner to share in the camaraderie that defines our group.
It was pleasing to see 9 mixed pairs in the field, and we hope to grow this number even further in coming years.
Event Format
The day’s competition was Individual Stableford, with a 2-Ball Stableford running in conjunction. Players were treated to Cromer in outstanding condition following the Club Championships, which concluded the previous Sunday. The greens were immaculate, true and fast, though a swirling breeze kept scoring honest.
2-Ball Medley Stableford Winners
The Medley 2-Ball Stableford was taken out by Terry Gilchrist and his partner Julie Overall (Avondale GC) from Newcastle GC with an excellent score of 41 points. They claimed a set of trophy wine glasses, edging out Laurie Glanfield and Darren See Hoe, who also returned 41 points but placed on countback.
Individual Stableford
As this is an invitation event, it was agreed that players could receive only one major prize.
Although Julie recorded the highest individual score of the day with 38 points, her 2-Ball victory meant she stepped aside, leaving the individual honours to Darren See Hoe, who posted a fine 37 points and also collected a trophy glass set, with the ball run down to 30 points
Nearest the Pin
Nearest the Pin on the 18th was claimed by Lindsay Verdon, who struck a superb shot finishing 232 cm from the cup.

Match Report – Bowral Golf Club
Monday 17th November 2025
A cool, blustery Monday greeted the players for the annual NSW v ACT Seniors match, where the best aggregate 12 stableford scores from each side would determine the winners. Both NSW and ACT also held an individual stableford competition in conjunction with the match.
A total of 35 players—15 travelling up from the ACT—assembled at the newly renovated Bowral Clubhouse. Old and new acquaintances reconnected over a quick sandwich before heading out for the 12 pm shotgun start to battle the challenging elements.
The course was presented beautifully; however, the windy conditions made scoring difficult. Approach shots landing directly on the greens often finished beyond them, leaving a tricky chip back. Once players adjusted and began landing the ball short to let it run onto the putting surface, scoring steadied.
It was reported last year that the original trophy, supposedly held by the ACT, had gone missing. A replica trophy, complete with the historical match details, was commissioned by ACT and presented to this year’s winners. We are delighted to report that NSW prevailed over the ACT with a comprehensive aggregate of 395 to 355 points. ACT President Kevin McLaughlin presented the replica trophy to NSW President John Barbour.
In the NSW stableford competition John Barbour also claimed individual honours with an excellent 37 points, followed by Rod Davies on 35, and evergreen 90-year-old Lynn Astley with 34. The ball rundown went exclusively to all NSW players as part of the winning team.
•Laurie Glanfield 33
•Bill Webster 33
•Howard McMillan 33
•Les Browne 32
•Tony Rourke 32
•Darren See Hoe 32
•Andrew Woods 32
•Robert Shield 31
•Langdon Emery 31
•Laughton Heggarty 31
•Mark Meares 30
•Graeme Houston 29
•Kevin Burke 29
•Paul Carroll 27
•Gary Martinolli 26
•John Stuart 24
•Tony Sedgewick 23
It was noted that the Ramshead Trophy, traditionally contested between NSW (Sydney-based members) and Bowral (Southern Highlands members) in conjunction with this event, had been misplaced during the recent clubhouse renovations. A search is currently underway, and once the trophy is located it will be recorded as not played in 2025
ACT President Kerry Clarke thanked Bowral Golf Club for hosting the event and congratulated NSW on their victory. President John Barbour, in turn, thanked the ACT members for their camaraderie and asked the attending Bowral members to pass on gratitude to Bowral GC and management for the use of the course and the post-game hospitality.
We now look forward to our final game for 2026 at Cromer on Tuesday, 2 December, where we extend an invitation to wives and partners to participate. A mixed 4 Ball Stableford will be run in conjunction with the members’ individual stableford. The timesheet is open for bookings.
We hope to see you at Cromer.
